Kottayil temple Pond

The Muchukunnu Kottayil Temple Pond is a remarkably picturesque and historically significant temple tank located near Koyilandy in the Kozhikode district of Kerala, and is associated with the Muchukunnu Kottayil Sree Shiva Temple.

Aesthetic and Architecture: The pond is famous for its striking visual appeal, featuring a large, ancient laterite (red sandstone) construction with many steps leading down to the clear water. It is set amidst the lush greenery of the temple's premises, including the surrounding Kottayil Kavu (sacred grove).

Significance: Built in a traditional Kerala style, reportedly over 200 years ago, it serves as a tranquil, sacred waterbody for the temple.

Cultural Fame: In recent times, the pond has gained significant recognition as a highly popular location for traditional photoshoots (including wedding and modeling shoots) due to its serene ambiance and cinematic look. It was famously featured as a major location in the 1992 Malayalam film 'Sargam'.

Its combination of spiritual sanctity, ancient architecture, and natural beauty makes it a highly sought-after spot for both devotees and photographers.
